Ok, Ohio families- don't be salty, Michigan has some beautiful places too! Michiganders know how to love the great outdoors! For good reason, the entire state is gorgeous and overflowing with amazing dog-friendly destinations to explore. Here are 10 solid winter-adventure parks/trail systems in Southern Michigan that are popular with dog hikers, explorers, and basically anyone who loves the beauty Michigan has to offer. Note: Michigan state parks generally allow pets on a 6-foot leash.

  1. Waterloo State Recreation Area (Chelsea)

  1. Stony Creek Metropark (Shelby Township)

    • Great winter walking with multiple trail options; very popular with local dog owners. Metroparks

  2. Bald Mountain Recreation Area (Lake Orion)

    • Hilly terrain = perfect “burn off Aussie energy” winter hike; also known for winter recreation (XC ski/snowmobile are common). Michigan
