📍 Location: 3225 NE Plain City-Georgesville Rd, West Jefferson, OH 43162
🐾 Best for: Hiking/ Exploring
⭐ Why we recommend: This one comes straight from an SSH Family recommendation!
This beautiful public recreation area offers more than 500 acres of prairies, grasslands, woods, and lakes, giving you and your pup plenty to explore. There are six trails to choose from, with different lengths and levels of difficulty, so you can pick an adventure that fits your family and your pup.
And let's talk about the sniffing opportunities! With all those new scents, changing terrain, wildlife, and open spaces, your Aussie can get plenty of mental stimulation along with their physical exercise. Remember, a good hike doesn't have to be about covering miles as quickly as possible - sometimes letting your Aussie stop, sniff, and investigate is what makes the adventure extra rewarding!
If your pup still has some energy left after exploring the trails, head toward Darby Bend Lakes and look for the Doggie Beach, where dogs can cool off with a swim. Just be prepared for the possibility that your Aussie may decide the hike was merely the journey to get to the water, haha!
Trail and park hours can vary by season, so check the Metro Parks website before heading out.
🐾 SSH Tip: Keep your leash handy! Dogs must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet, except in designated areas at Darby Bend Lakes. So, this is a great opportunity to practice leash skills. Bring plenty of water and some high-value treats, too. A few rewards along the trail can help reinforce those check-ins and remind your Aussie that staying connected with you is part of the adventure!
And, of course, don't forget the poop bags - we want to leave these beautiful spaces the same as (or even better than!) we found them.
Planning to visit the Doggie Beach? Pack a towel! Wet dogs are adorable…right up until you have to put one in your freshly cleaned car.
📍 Location: 4380 N. Old State Rd, Delaware, OH 43015
🐾 Best for: Socializing/ Exploring
⭐ Why we recommend: This one comes straight from an SSH Fam recommendation! Henmick Farm & Brewery is a fun spot where humans and pups can enjoy a little food, drinks, fresh air, and farm-country exploring together. With rotating food trucks, seasonal events, outdoor space, and even public horse trails, there’s plenty to sniff out!
Family-owned since 1916, Henmick Farm & Brewery has been reinvented as a gathering spot where visitors can relax, enjoy good food and drinks, and take in the farm atmosphere. Their schedule includes a rotating lineup of food trucks and events throughout the year, so there can be something new to experience each time you visit.
🐾 SSH Tip: Friendly dogs are welcome outdoors as long as they are kept on a leash, so be sure to bring your pup’s leash and plenty of poop bags for the visit. With food trucks, other dogs, people, and farm activity happening around you, pack some high-value treats, too! This can be a great place to practice your Aussie’s calm walking, check-ins, and settling skills while still letting them enjoy the adventure.

📍 Location: 3341 Winchester Pike, Columbus, OH 43232 (their year-round location!)
🐾 Best for: Socializing/ Human Interaction/ Shopping
⭐ Why we recommend: Who says grocery shopping has to be boring? Bring your Aussie along and turn a quick trip to the farm market into a real-world training adventure! You can pick up fresh, local goodies for your family while your pup practices being calm and confident around people, new sights, and lots of exciting smells.
The Witten Farm Market offers a great selection of fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables, locally made goodies, bakery items, dog treats, cafe drinks, and more. During the holidays, you can even find locally made gifts for the humans on your shopping list! You can even take advantage of their cute corn chair photo area like Snuggles and FlapJax did!
The Winchester Pike location is open year-round, Monday to Saturday from 8 am–7 pm and Sunday from 8 am–6 pm. That makes it an easy place to work into your routine—and sometimes the best training opportunities are the ones hiding inside your everyday errands!
🐾 SSH Tip: Before you go, remember that dogs must be kept on a leash. Your Aussie is welcome inside the main market, which is full of so many fun things to explore, but the cafe building does not allow dogs unless they are service animals.
With all those delicious smells around, your Aussie may need a little extra help remembering that not everything in the store is for them! Haha! Bring those high-value treats (or buy some while you are there) and make the most of the distractions. A trip to the farm market might just turn into one of your pup’s best training sessions of the week!

📍 Location: 3992 Hollenback Rd, Lewis Center, OH 43035
🐾 Best for: Playing/ Swimming/ Socializing/ Exploring
⭐ Why we recommend: If your Mini Aussie loves to swim, Alum Creek Dog Park is definitely one to add to your adventure list! With fenced-in swimming areas, separate play spaces, and plenty of room to explore, it gives your pup a chance to burn some energy while having fun.
Alum Creek Dog Park offers separate fenced play areas for large and small dogs, making it easier to find a space where your pup can play comfortably. The park also features three fenced-in water areas for dogs who want to make a splash! The play areas also have lighting, giving you a little more flexibility to enjoy the park during darker hours.
And if your Aussie is anything like our Nan, the water may quickly become the main attraction! Once they discover a good swimming spot, convincing them that it is time to leave can become a whole separate training exercise, haha!
🐾 SSH Tip: Towels and poop bags are your two must-pack items for this adventure! We’re big believers in leaving dog-friendly spaces the same, or even better, than we found them. And trust us… a wet Aussie in the car is a smelly nightmare. Pack an extra towel (or two) and save yourself from the post-swim funk!
📍 Location: 9399 Morse Rd SW, Pataskala, OH 43062
🐾 Best for: Socializing / Exploring
⭐ Why we recommend: A fun, family-friendly farm that offers a little something for you and your pup during the summer and fall months!
With more than 300 acres of seasonal produce, Lynd Fruit Farm is a great place to add some variety to your Mini Aussie’s day. Depending on the season, you can enjoy everything from apple picking and sunflower fields to family-friendly farm events, and your pup can tag along for some of the fun! They even have a dog-friendly corn maze - how cool!!
Keep in mind that Lynd Fruit Farm is closed during January, February, March, most of April, and December. During its open months, the farm is generally open 10 am-6 pm. Since events and pet-friendly areas can vary by season, check their website before heading out.
🐾 SSH Tip: Farms are full of exciting smells, people, and distractions, which can be a LOT for an Aussie brain! Bring high-value treats and use your visit to practice checking in with you, walking nicely on a leash, and calmly taking in all the new sights and smells. Your pup doesn’t have to investigate everything they find!
